Eric Koch - Tribute to a Rotarian
As Rotarians, we pay tribute to Eric Koch who in 1965, became one of the founding members of the Swellendam Rotary Club. Eric served a number of terms as the President of the club. Rotary formed a significant and important part of Eric's life. Eric was always a willing and gracious participant in Rotary activities, always assisting where possible. He initiated numerous club projects over the years and stalwartly supported the Rotary philosophy of service to the community. Eric only missed a club meeting during periods where he was unwell or out of town.
Eric also served and participated In Rotary District 9350, seldom missing a District Conference. One of the most noteworthy of the numerous Rotary projects initiated by Eric, was the establishment of the Rotary Park Retirement Village where Eric and his wife Francina resided. He was a selfless person, always ready to help when needed. Apart from the two storage rooms that he willingly made available, at no cost for Rotary use, he made sure there was always a utility vehicle available for Rotary Projects.
Eric received various acknowledgements over the years for service to Rotary but the naming of the Rotary Club Room in his honour - the Eric Koch Kamer/Room - was, according to Eric, the highlight.
Our prayers and thoughts are with Francina and the children and grandchildren. May you find peace and consolation in our Heavenly Father and hold and cherish the memory of Eric in your hearts forever.
Rest in Peace Eric.
