Because of the nature of conditions within our community during these extraordinary times, Rotary approved an initial budget of R20 000 with the object of assisting with the relief of the occurring hardships experienced by the less fortunate.
Rotary's help and involvement in the assistance of the needy in the community is based on a twofold approach.
1) Involvement and co-operation with the CAP/Swellendam Relief Fund and 2) Co-operation and involvement with Father Mario’s feeding scheme.
We originally envisioned a soup kitchen at Pastor Joseph but after investigating this, it was realised that there were too many requirements to be fulfilled and was thus not practical. (Father Mario’s establishment fulfilled the necessary requirements). The suggested process is that CAP will purchase the necessary stock for the food parcels. (Herman negotiates excellent prices). CAP will forward invoices to Rotary.
Dependent on available funds, suppliers will be paid directly by Rotary on behalf of CAP. Father Mario will inform us on Mondays of the supplies needed for the week (primarily vegetables and proteins), Rotary will then purchase and deliver. It was agreed that Pastor Joseph will acquire cooked food from Father Mario and food parcels from CAP to meet his requirements.
