The Garden Project has been up and running for over four months with good produce available. Vegetables are supplied to a number of Railton wholesalers and can also be purchased at the Swellendam Under the Oaks Market which is held every Saturday morning (weather permitting).
Chemical free veggies, grown near the railway, by community members, are available for the local community, particularly for elderly and very young.
The Buffeljags Market Garden Project is overseen by the "Uitreikende Hande Vroue Groep".
Profits achieved by the project are re-channeled back into the market garden to purchase more seed, seedlings and to assist with transportation costs.
Now that the initial phases of the project are viable and producing veggies, the group are keen to involve as many more members of the community as possible
Rotary Club of Swellendam, SSK, local farmers and the Buffeljags Rugby Club are active supporters of the project which aims to become totally self sufficient within as little time as possible.
Rotary Swellendam is considering further investment in support of the Third Phase of the project should the Garden Project become totally self sufficient. Third phase would mean that the garden would go into full production during 2020.
