Swellendam Rotary Club recently held their 2016 Christmas party hosted by Trevenen and Hesphia Barry on their farm. 26 Rotarians and Anns departed for the farm from Church square on the ‘Rooi bus’’. The journey to the farm took about 40 minutes and an ‘’all shook up group‘’ arrived on the farm to a wonderful welcome from Trevenen and Hesphia as well as Henri, Hester and Johan Kriek.
Some serious discussions [enhanced by liquid refreshments] took place prior to the food being served. It is difficult to find words to describe the meal that was served by Hesphia and her helpers. The bread was superb, the main meal of lamb, chicken pie and assorted vegetables was delicious and deserts called for second helpings. It will be difficult to find a meal to equal the spread laid out by Hesphia. As usual the meal was accompanied by pleasant chatter and raucous laughter. Thank you Trevenen, Hesphia and her team for organising and sponsoring this special, successful and enjoyable event.
On the way home the’’Rooi bus”was literally rocking. With dancing in the aisles and sharing of unknown liquid substances.
The highlight was Brian Cole’s rendition of a very dangerous but exotic dance. The group of tired but very happy Rotarians and Anns arrived back in Swellendam shortly after midnight.
