The Rotary Club of Swellendam recently hosted a visit from 10 Rotarians from Swedish clubs on a friendship visit to South Africa. They spent 5 nights with us in Swellendam and, on the first day, were treated to a tour of the Bontebok National Park with their guide followed by a heritage
walk with Rotarian Johan Kriek the recently retired curator of the Drostdy Museum. In the evening we entertained them to a steak braai at The Hideaway. President Noelene Cole briefed the visitors on Swellendam Rotary club projects and we were in turn treated to a presentation about the Swedish clubs and a very enjoyable choral rendition of some rousing Swedish songs.
The following day was spent on a wine tour of the Robertson wine valley which culminated in a visit to the award winning Marbrin olive farm, where they tasted some gold medal olive oils, olives and tapenades.
The last day of the visit coincided with the 51st anniversary of the charter of Rotary Club of Swellendam on 6th November 1965. The visitors joined Swellendam Rotarians for a fantastic cruise oi the Buffeljagsdam, followed by a swim and an amazing braai lunch with traditional cupcakes.
We said farewell to our guests the next morning and look forward to visiting them in Sweden soon.
