Wheelchair donation

Rotary Swellendam were delighted to be able to donate five wheelchairs to needy organisations in the greater Swellendam district. The first four were handed over to Ms Lynette Temmer, occupational therapist at the Department of Health, Western Cape. The fifth chair was handed over to Huis AA Tomlinson for the use of Mr Francois van der Merwe, a resident who has suffered an amputation as a result of diabetes disease. Ms Temmers once again, expressed sincere appreciation to Rotary Club for the continued support and Mr Jerry van Vuuren expressed appreciation to Rotary on behalf of Huis AA Tomlinson and the recipient of the wheelchair. Donation to Red Cross Children’s Hospital

The little patients of the Red Cross Children's Hospital will benefit from delightful knitted articles knitted by the ladies of the Rotary Railton Coffee Morning, Hesphia Barry and Celia Cloete. Article and photograph— Corrie Cloete.

Rotary involved in the Community.

In the past week, Rotary was involved in a number of school and community outreaches. Bontebok Primary received a 5 litre hand sanitizer and VRTPITT were given a large number of facemasks for children. The Avendson Club for the elderly handed over various knitted items (wool sponsored by Rotary) to Sister Hettie from the Department of Community Welfare for distribution to those in need. Rotary's new Board of Directors

The Hideaway was the venue for the first meeting of Rotary's new Board of Directors 2020/2021. Covid-19 health and safety regulations were strictly adhered to. According to Johan Kriek, the new Rotary President, the New Board will henceforth operate in an entirely different environment in comparison to the previous Boards. All the new and anticipated challenges of the future will need to be met head on with new and innovative thinking. Comfort for newborn babies

The Swellendam Hospital maternity ward received a warming and welcome donation of hand knitted baby blankets and vests from the wonderful knitters of the Rotary Railton Coffee group, Avylynne Kriel and Edna Streichers' Rotary Park knitting group. Not only will these donations keep the newborn babies warm in our chilly winter weather but their artistic and cheerful handiwork will also be enjoyed by those around them in the maternity ward.
